About

Vera Auerbach is the Principal Clinical Psychologist and founder of Gymea Lily Psychotherapy Centre, which she established in 1994 in the Sutherland Shire.

For over 30 years, Vera has been dedicated to offering a thoughtful, compassionate approach to therapy—one that looks beyond surface symptoms to understand the deeper emotional world, relationships, and unconscious patterns that shape our lives.

Vera is a highly experienced clinical psychologist, psychoanalytic psychotherapist and group analyst, working with children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families. She has a particular passion for supporting infants, young children, and parents, and is widely respected for her work in attachment, early development, and parent–infant relationships.

Her qualifications include degrees from the University of New South Wales, the University of Sydney, and the University of Wollongong, along with extensive post-graduate training in counselling, family therapy, and child and adolescent psychoanalytic psychotherapy. Vera has also been an accredited supervisor for psychologists since 2000, contributing to the development of the next generation of clinicians.

Vera’s approach is warm, reflective, and deeply attuned. She creates a safe, containing space where people can feel understood and supported to explore difficult emotions, relationship patterns, and life challenges at their own pace. She offers psychoanalytic psychotherapy, play therapy for children, parent–infant therapy, and long-term therapeutic work, depending on each person’s needs.

Vera also has a long-standing interest in group work and was a founding member and former President of the Group Analytic Society (Sydney). She continues to facilitate long-term psychotherapy groups and mothers’ groups, offering spaces for shared reflection and support.

At the heart of Vera’s work is a genuine belief in the importance of accessible, high-quality mental health care. She is committed to providing a respectful and inclusive environment, with flexible fee arrangements where possible, and is an approved Victim Services and Homicide Support therapist.
